A Beacon of Atlantic City’s Legacy
Standing 171 feet tall, Absecon Lighthouse is New Jersey’s tallest and the third tallest lighthouse in the United States. Built to guide ships through the treacherous waters off Absecon Inlet, it now serves as a towering symbol of Atlantic City’s enduring spirit.
In 1993, the Inlet Public/Private Association adopted the lighthouse as a symbol of renewal for the Inlet neighborhood. A multi-phase restoration followed: the lighthouse itself was restored in 1999, the Keeper’s Dwelling rebuilt in 2001, and the surrounding two-acre site revitalized in 2003.
Today, Absecon Lighthouse welcomes visitors to climb its 228 steps, offering panoramic views of the city and shoreline. It’s more than a historic landmark—it’s a living tribute to Atlantic City’s maritime heritage and community resilience.
